VW Heritage wanted a series of photographs to advertise their Remtec range of engines for air-cooled VW Beetles and Campers. Le Magazine Café in Lewes, Sussex, provided the venue, which stocks a great selection of journals, antiques, not to mention great cakes.

For their new clothing catalogue they wanted something completely different. “We want the models to look like they are floating or crashing into the wall”, Larry told me at the photography briefing as he rolled out the ‘grandma’s house’ style wall paper.
This presented a unique set of challenges and I decided the best way to achieve the desired look was to photograph from directly above. I wanted the models to be able to pull very dynamic poses but not look like they were lying down.
I removed some roof panels from the portacabin we were using and set up on top with the studio directly below. This was very effective and I was really pleased with the results.
